nterior Minister A. Rehman Malik has categorically rejected the propaganda of western media about the presence of 10,000 Chinese soldiers in Gilgit-Baltistan.During his meeting with Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian here at the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday, he said the propaganda of western media was baseless, “there is not a single Chinese solider in Gilgit-Baltistan.” The Chinese envoy informed the Minister that his government had increased relief assistance from $ 20 to $ 50 million for the flood affected people of Pakistan.

Liu Jian said that the Chinese government was committed to rehabilitation of flood victims, adding that a field hospital was already operational in Sindh while another such hospital manned by the female doctors of Peoples Liberation Army would reach Pakistan soon.

The Interior Minister expressed gratitude to Chinese envoy and his country for generous contributions for the flood affected people.

He said,” Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with China”.

The Aga Khan University-Institute for educational Development (AKU-IED0 Professional Development Center, North (PDCN) is working for quality improvement in education in Gilgit-baltistan The PDCN Provides state-of-the-art facilities for capacity building of teachers, headteachers, district managers and other stakeholders in the field of education. Over the last decade PDCN has attracted an increasing number of course participants from all parts of gilgit-Baltistan and beyond. Our partnership with the Government Education Department and the Aga Khan Education service, Pakistan (AKES,P) to improve quality of teaching and learning in schools, has achieved encouraging results.

AKU-IDE PDCN has embarked on an “Education Development and Improvement Program” (EDIP), conceived by Aga Khan Foundation, Pakistan (AKF ,P), in association with AKES,P and other partner organisations within the Aga Khan development Network and supported by the Australian Agency for international Development. The University is committed to implement the project in all seven districts of gilgit-Baltistan, and invites applications for the following positions:

Deputy Project Coordinator

(Based in Gilgit)

The incumbent will assist the EDIP Project Coordinator in planning and managing the project activities. S/he will be responsible for designing, monitoring and evaluating Programmes and research activities, and will play a pivotal role in dissemination of learning from the project. S/he is expected to work very closely with the Government Department of education and other partners, as well as school communities and the private sector to develop a successful public-private partnership. Candidates should have a master’s degree, preferably in Educational Planning and Management or Teacher Education with at least 5 years of work experience in project management, implementation, evaluation and research.

Professional, development Teachers

(Based in Gilgit)

The Learning Resource School Model Proposed by EDIP will be implemented by AKU-IED PDCN in all districts of gilgit-Baltistan.

A Professional Development Teacher will be placed in each LRS, who would be responsible to implement the EDIP at the LRS and in the three cluster schools. The incumbents will be responsible for planning and conducting school improvement initiatives including professional development sessions, classroom observation and feedback, School development plans, liaising with school communities and purporting the progress of the project school. Candidates should have a Med from a recognized university with at least 5 years experience, preferably in teacher education.

Research Supervisor

(Based in Gilgit)

The incumbent will monitor and evaluate programmatic and research activities at the regional and local level of Gilgit-Baltistan. S/he will also be responsible for analysis of Programme success and failure,

Documentation and dissemination of best practices progress report writing, annual strategic planning cycle support and coordination with community and staff. Candidates must have a Masters degree in social sciences, preferably in Sociology or Social Work, from a well recognized university with at least 3 years experience in the field of monitoring evaluating and research.
